Description
On an historic mill site, Burrs has much to offer with relaxing river & countryside walks and contemporary art, with the East Lancashire Steam Railway passing by. The Country Park is easily accessible, situated just north of Bury Town centre and is handy for trips into Manchester with the tramlink in Bury Centre. The park is based around the River Irwell and the remains of two cotton mills - Higher Woodhill Mill and Burrs Mill. Extensive development of the mill sites has left interesting archaeological remains and water course through the site. There are many opportunities for outdoor pursuits such as climbing, abseiling and is ideal for canoeists of all levels, from the purpose built training pool to slalom courses on the river. The park also has many trails and a permanent orienteering trail. The Brown Cow pub next door slakes many a thirst.
Electric hook-up, waste disposal and some hardstandings available. Toilet/showers, baby and toddler washroom, disabled facilities and a launderette are all on site. Dog walks on site or nearby.
The local town has a choice of shops and eating out places. The Brown Cow pub is next door to the park.
