Shakespeare’s Birthplace has been welcoming visitors for over 250 years. This fine Tudor house is where the dramatist’s life began and today it offers a visitors a tantalising glimpse into his early world. See where prominent writers including Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy have left their mark and learn about traditional leather-craft as practised by Shakespeare’s father, John in the Glover’s workshop. Enjoy live performances in the garden with Shakespeare Aloud! Step into the Bard’s imagination and see and hear his most intriguing characters come alive in front of your eyes.

Visit our state of the art Life, Love and Legacy exhibition at Shakespeare’s Birthplace. A fascinating and immerse journey into Shakespeare’s world and the inspiration for the great dramatic works that have enjoyed global renown ever since. This enthralling show interweaves theatre with Shakespearian magic. You will see genuine treasures and artefacts associated with the man himself brought to life, including Shakespeare’s First Folio. A wonderful spectacle that sets the scene for your visit to his birthplace.

Nash's House & New Place - Dig for Shakespeare reopens April 2011!
See where the Shakespeare story ended with his death in 1616, wander through the picturesque gardens and see where his house New Place used to stand. Nash's house was named after Thomas Nash, first husband of Shakespeare's granddaughter and wealthy local property owner. Shakespeare died at New Place in 1616. Although later destroyed, the location is now preserved as a picturesque garden space. See the ancient Mulberry tree, claimed to be from a cutting planted by Shakespeare. From April 2011 experience a live archaeological dig! Archaeological experts return to continue excavations at the site of New Place…and you can be part of it! A great day out for all the family, including guided tours, a children’s activities room, quizzes and the chance to dig on our archaeological computer game!

Hall's Croft
Wander through the elegant house of Susanna, Shakespeare’s daughter and her husband the wealthy physician Dr John Hall. Admire the beautiful furniture and fascinating artefacts. Examine the intriguing collection of apothecary’s equipment, books and medical instruments. Relax in the tranquil gardens and breathe in the fragrant herbs as used by Dr Hall in his remedies.
