Description

Every room in Raby Castle, from the magnificent Barons' Hall, where 700 knights gathered to plot the 'Rising of the North', to the Medieval Kitchen which was used until 1954, gives an insight to life throughout the ages.

Behind the powerful exterior of towers and fortifications, Raby houses a fantastic art collection and splendid interiors. Treasures include an important collection of Meissen porcelain, tapestries, furnishings and paintings by leading artists such as Munnings, De Hooch, Teniers, Van Dyck and Reynolds.

Throughout May, June and September we operate a guided tour system of the Castle. Our knowledgeable and friendly guides will take you on a tour of the Castle to discover its fascinating history and beautiful interiors.

If you prefer to stroll around and take in the castle at your own pace, then we operate a free-flow system on Sundays, bank holiday Mondays, and everyday throughout July and August. During free-flow days, our knowledgeable guides will be in each room of the castle.

The 200 acre deer park surrounding Raby Castle has Red deer and the smaller Fallow deer, visitors can enjoy a relaxing stroll through the deer park.

In the traditional 18th century ornamental Walled Gardens, Yew Hedges, Trees, Plants and Ornaments date from the 18th and 19th century.

You can also enjoy a collection of carriages and see the harnesses and trappings on display. Relax in the Stable Tearooms and gift shop. For the children there is a woodland playground.
