Australian World-renowned Youth Choir to Tour Europe
Australia’s finest national youth choir Gondwana Chorale will perform a concert series in major venues, including St John’s Smith Square, London, during their premiere European tour in January 2013.
The performances will feature music by legendary English composer Benjamin Britten in celebration of the centenary of his birth. The dynamic program also includes works from contemporary Australian choral composers Joseph Twist, Paul Stanhope and Clare Maclean.
Conducting the choir will be Paul Holley and Carl Crossin OAM, both renowned conductors and choral specialists. Mr Holley has been Principal Guest Conductor of Gondwana Chorale for seven years and is thrilled to be joining the Chorale for this tour.
“The repertoire we have been rehearsing is vibrant and challenging and provides a platform to exhibit the finest young choristers from Australia. Audiences will be impressed at the level of excellence shown by these developing voices,” said Mr Holley.
Gondwana Chorale is comprised of 44 young people aged between 16 and 26 from across Australia, including sixteen-year-old Alec Steedman from Cairns, Queensland. This is the first year Alec has been in Gondwana Chorale and this is his first major tour.
“Touring with Gondwana Chorale to perform in Europe at these prestigious venues will be an amazing experience and I can’t wait to take off. To sing in St John’s Smith Square is an honour as all the best performers of the world play there,” says Alec.
From 24 January – 2 February Gondwana Chorale will perform in some of Europe’s finest concert halls and cathedrals including Dora Stoutzker Hall, Cardiff; Gloucester Cathedral; Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford; St John’s College Chapel, Cambridge; St John’s Smith Square and St Paul’s Cathedral, London and La Madeleine Church, Paris.
Gondwana Chorale will be accompanied by pianist Luke Byrne for the duration of the tour.
