Cumbrian Park Celebrates rare important Birth
Born Monday 13th February the latest very rare addition to South Lakes Wild Animal Park is one very cute Pygmy Hippo. Mum Quma and Dad Wamburutuh have been together since they arrived as part of the European Breeding Programme in December 2004.
Mum Quma is the 3rd most important female in the Breeding Programme out of 75!!!

'Very few establishments breed Pygmy Hippos and this birth is another important birth for both the programme and the park.'
Baby is the latest of rare calves following the birth of a white rhino 17th Nov 2011.
Pygmy Hippos (Hexaprotodon liberiensis). Found in thick brush, rivers and rainforests in West Africa, the pygmy hippo is very rare in the wild due to hunting and habitat destruction.
Visitors to the park this weekend will be able to view mum and baby inside. Admission for children is free of charge through until March 30th.
